At Watson & Wallie, every treat has a purpose—and often, a story. One of the most important things we've learned is how sugar impacts yeast growth and can complicate things for dogs with sensitivities and/or diabetes.
Yeast thrives in sugary environments, and many traditional dog treats (even the “healthy” ones) contain more sugar than you’d think. For dogs with itchy skin, chronic licking, or paw chewing, too much sugar can make things worse. And for diabetic dogs, low sugar isn’t optional—it’s vital. Carbohydrates turn to sugar.
👉 We can’t eliminate yeast entirely—it’s a natural part of a dog’s skin—but we can help manage it. One of the most effective ways is by limiting excess sugars and choosing ingredients that support a healthier balance. Diet is an important method to managing yeast. That’s why we’ve been hard at work crafting snacks that are low in sugar, easy on digestion, and smart about yeast.
Up next? C2 – Coconut Cauliflower WallieSnaps. This crunchy, veggie-forward treat is made without pumpkin, fruit, or sweet potatoes—just purposeful ingredients chosen for wellness and balance. It’s a delicious new option for dogs with itchy skin and/or sugar sensitivities, and it’s coming soon. We are waiting on the lab results to come back (as we expect). Keep you fingers crossed, this will be our 5th attempt at making an effective Low Sugar treat.
C2 will join our low sugar/yeast-conscious lineup:
🐾 Mussel Power – Low sugar (just 1.31%) and mobility-friendly
🐾 Zucchini & Parma Crisps – Light, crisp, and great for sugar-sensitive pups (2.23% sugar)
🐾 Veggie Crisp – Green veggie goodness with only 2.14% total sugars
We're proud to lead the pack with treats that support more than tails—they support your dog’s total wellness. Keep an eye here on The Scoop for more updates and behind-the-scenes sneak peeks!
